Tips for a Healthier Smile

A lot of oral care suggestions are available online, and it may be very confusing to determine what’s right for you and what’s not. At Root Dental, we will conduct a thorough screening of your mouth and suggest the best means to treat your dental concerns. Here are some dental care tips you can follow that will help you maintain a healthier smile.

  • Brush Your Teeth Every Day

Brushing the teeth at least twice every day is the simplest and most effective means of maintaining a healthier oral cavity. Even when we teach our children oral care, brushing their teeth is the first and foremost lesson. Brushing gets rid of a majority of the microbes from the surfaces of the teeth, which reduces the chances of developing plaque and tartar deposits significantly. In fact, it is the first line of defense against the bacteria in the mouth and helps keep most oral concerns at bay.

  • Floss Regularly

Flossing is often ignored even if the individual brushes their teeth regularly. Flossing is the process of removing the bacteria and adhered food residues from the intersections of the teeth, which is where cavities often develop. The toothbrush bristles do not reach these intersections, which is why flossing is all the more important to reduce the chances of cavities.

  • Use a Fluoride-Rich Toothpaste

Fluoride is an essential mineral that strengthens the teeth and prevents cavities, much like calcium. The water we drink would be enriched with fluoride, which is how our body receives its requirement of the mineral. Additionally, we can use fluoride-rich toothpaste to replenish its amount in the teeth and keep them from developing cavities.

  • Limit the Intake of Sugar

Foods containing a high amount of sugar, such as chocolate, pastries, aerated beverages, etc., should be consumed in limited quantities. The microbes in our mouth feed majorly on these foods, which directly contribute to cavities and gum disease. Consuming sugar-rich foods isn’t the concern itself, but the actual culprit is leaving a sugary residue on the teeth, gums, and tongue after consuming them.  So, it is best to gargle with water to wash away the residues after eating them.

  • Visit Your Dentist Regularly

Routine dental visits are essential to spot the onset of dental conditions and halt them before they can take a toll. The dentist will check for cavities, tartar deposits, gum disease, damaged restorations, and cosmetic concerns during the routine visit. . After the screening, suitable treatment will be given to address them.
