Porcelain crowns by Dr. Root can help restore teeth that have been badly worn, broken, or decayed.
WHAT ARE PORCELAIN CROWNS?
A dental crown is commonly referred to as a “cap.” After damage or decay is removed from a tooth, a porcelain crown is placed over it. It covers the entire tooth—from the gumline to the biting surface—to protect it from further damage and is cemented with permanent cement to the prepared tooth.
TYPES OF CROWNS
Dr. Root offers a variety of crowns to provide aesthetically pleasing results. Based on each case, he recommends the most durable, natural-looking solution, and explains all options.
ZIRCONIA : Zirconium dioxide is an exceptionally strong ceramic that is nicknamed ceramic steel. Zirconia crowns are metal free, so there is virtually no risk of creating a reaction in people with metal allergies or sensitivities. They are naturally translucent and very strong, which make them a great option to restore your natural teeth.
PORCELAIN FUSED TO METAL : Crowns with a metal foundation provide maximum support and durability. They are often used on back teeth to withstand the forces of chewing and grinding. When Dr. Root uses them on front teeth, the metal in the margin of the crown is reduced so a layer of porcelain can be added. The porcelain margin helps to produce a lifelike restoration and prevents the metal foundation from showing through at your gumline.
On back teeth, Dr. Root will use monolithic zirconia—a crown or a bridge cast as a single unit for the highest strength. On back teeth, he will use zirconia veneered with porcelain for enhanced aesthetics.
For the teeth in the smile line, a more translucent type of zirconia crown can be used. These crowns mimic the translucency and beauty of natural teeth.
E.MAX : These crowns are made of a high-strength lithium disilicate core overlaid with porcelain. They produce excellent color, translucence, and luster combined with high strength. E.MAX crowns create aesthetically pleasing results that enhance your smile. E.MAX crowns can also be bonded to short or smaller teeth when additional renovation is necessary.

EXCEPTIONAL COSMETIC DENTISTRY
Beautiful crowns aren’t assured by everyone; the results depend on the skills of both the dentist and the ceramist. Dr. Root has made cosmetic dentistry into an art. He has an eye for beauty and produces crowns that match the color, characteristics, and translucence of your natural teeth.
Dr. Root is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and his master ceramist is Takayoshi Nishihata of Valkaria, FL. Mr. Nishihata is passionate about dental aesthetics and only accepts certain dentists as his clients.
When you receive porcelain crowns from Dr. Root, you will experience his concern for your long-term oral health, preserving your natural teeth, and ensuring your restorations last. He will tell you how to take care of your restorations. A customized nightguard will be recommended to protect most aesthetic crowns or bridges.
The comment below from one of our patients reflects the sentiments we regularly hear. We’ll work hard to ensure your dental experience is equally positive.
"I loved the way everything was fully explained to me and the fact that Dr. Root was willing to try a more conservative approach to my issue rather than extract teeth like my prior dentist wanted to do. I would highly recommend Dr. Root and his staff to anyone! They truly care about their patients.” – Terri H.
